Hello, Spring!
If you’re anything like me, you are ready to trade the winter blues for something more spirited.
Today, I’m pulling back the curtain on my grandmillennial style and showing you how I refreshed my favorite rooms for the season.
All-white can be beautiful. But my home is all about layered textures, traditional chinoiserie decorating, and unapologetically bright colors!
The best part? Every idea I’m sharing is a boutique-style quick change. Meaning you can create a high-impact look in your own home without spending a fortune or an entire weekend on a DIY project.
Garden-inspired touches in the kitchen…
Blue and green layers in the living room…
Welcome to my colorful spring home refresh!
The Dining Room: Chinoiserie and Classic Layers
In the dining room, the real star of the room this season is the chinoiserie floral wallpaper.
I’m so lucky that this patterned wallpaper contains my favorite color palette…shades of blue, green, and pink! Honestly, the paper does all the heavy lifting and provides the perfect grounding for my spring decor.
Setting the dining table is a joy in here!
Traditional elements with a modern twist, family heirlooms, unique vintage pieces…I love to layer it up!
While I absolutely love playing with layers and textures to set a pretty spring table (I’ve included a few of my favorite looks below!), I also believe in keeping things breathable for everyday life.
Most spring days, you’ll find a simple glass vase on the table filled with drooping faux cherry blossoms.
I love how the delicate pink petals play off the wallpaper’s pattern without competing with it.
Simple, elegant, and it only takes a few seconds to put together!
When the table isn’t set for a formal meal, this room actually doubles as my favorite little “garden library.”
There is something so peaceful about sitting here with a fresh cup of coffee and a stack of my favorite design and gardening books.
I’m no artist, but I love sketching out ideas for the upcoming planting season.
The colors in the room genuinely inspire me to get outside and start digging in the dirt!
Boutique-style Tip: Don’t feel pressured to create a massive centerpiece for a dining space. A clear glass vase with a few high-quality faux branches (cherry blossoms, quince, or even backyard greenery) adds height and life to a room without blocking the view of your beautiful window treatments or artwork.
The Living Room: Bold Patterns and Blue-Green Hues
Step into the living room, and you will see my love of color and pattern continue.
With the green drapes and the cobalt blue chairs, the room already has a strong foundation in the color design.
But it’s the home decor on the fireplace mantel that really “breathes” spring into the space.
I’ve styled it with a large mirror flanked by two glass vases, each holding a colorful flocked bunny (of course, blue and green!) with faux cherry blossoms shooting out the top.
I love that the blossoms tie back to the dining room. When designing with strong color and pattern, small details like this help to create a cohesive look.
It’s just enough of a fresh take to balance out the bold, black and white houndstooth fireplace.
The coffee table is the perfect place for grandmillennial style.
Stacked books, colorful patterns, and home accents with character. So many conversation starters here!
Can you guess where I found these flower prints? I cut them from my John Derian “Picture Book” (the one that sits on the coffee table) and fill these gold frames.
Quick Tip: These versatile frames get a seasonal refresh every few moments. They have held abstract art, Ralph Lauren-style horses, and now…pretty pink flowers! Find some favorite book pages…and frame them!
A dark wood side table in a classic design helps to ground the room. I styled the table with a Prussian blue lamp with a block print lampshade, a short stack of books, and a simple vase with a touch of greenery.
And this little bunny keeps an eye on the entire room!
The bookcase is where you’ll find the heart of my grandmillennial design.
It’s a true celebration of traditional style mixed with modern pieces. The bookcase features wallpaper-covered books and artwork propped on a shelf.
On the very top, I’ve displayed my favorite chinoiserie style decor pieces, which add that height and history that I love so much.
Even with all the patterns, it feels like the perfect balance because the colors all speak the same language!

Boutique-style Tip: If you’re worried about too many patterns clashing, try “quieting” your bookshelves. I love covering books with white embossed wallpaper. It acts as a visual palette cleanser that lets your more colorful accents and patterns shine without feeling too cluttered.
The Kitchen: A Garden-Inspired Refresh
Finally, let’s head into the kitchen!
Here you will find a mix of textures to make the kitchen “heart of the home” feel lush and lived-in.
I’m a firm believer that functional spaces should still be beautiful.
Take the kitchen sink…On one side, there’s fresh, fragrant basil.
And on the other side, a bold color moment with a vibrant lamp sitting on a stack of books.
I even keep a little floral trinket tray there. It’s the perfect spot to tuck away my rings while I work.
Fresh flowers earn a spot by my favorite springtime cookbooks and a decorative rolling pin in a gorgeous green William Morris pattern. I love how traditional patterns bring a sense of history to the countertop!
The kitchen island is really the focal point, though!
I’ve styled a large woven tray with some of my favorite finds.
Colorful faux cabbages, a blueberry-covered teapot, and a sweet mama bunny tossing her baby into the air. So sweet!
There’s even a thrifted bunny plate and a little greenhouse ornament in the mix!
It’s an updated twist on classic spring motifs.
And since I’m lucky enough to have a cozy chair in the corner, I gave it an instant Grandmillennial style touch by adding a hooked chinoiserie pillow.
These are the key elements that make the room feel curated but still approachable.
Boutique-style Tip: Use a large tray to anchor your spring vignettes on a kitchen island or dining table. Not only does it make the mix of textures look intentional, but it’s also incredibly practical. If you suddenly need that counter space for meal prep, you can move the entire spring look in one easy “quick-change” motion!
Bringing It All Together: Tips for a Layered Look
Bringing all these layers together is truly the best way to celebrate the change of seasons. Without feeling overwhelmed by a total room makeover. (My kind of decorating!)
When you lean into traditional decor, the secret to keeping it fresh is knowing how to mix patterns for an updated look.
By choosing a few focal points, you create a roadmap for the rest of your floral patterns and textures to follow. I always try to ground busier areas with solid colors in my furniture, drapery, or accents to give the eye a place to rest.
It’s also the time to pull out your favorite vintage finds and give them new life in a spring vignette. It might be a thrifted bunny plate in the kitchen, a needlepoint pillow passed down from your grandmother, or that cute brass mouse that just called your name!
These pieces add history and character that make a house feel like a home!
The 10 Minute Spring Quick Change Checklist
- Swap out a heavy winter centerpiece for a simple glass vase with spring blossoms.
- Place a colorful lamp on a stack of books to brighten up a dark kitchen corner.
- Add a seasonal handmade pillow to your favorite armchair.
- Style a movable woven tray with a mix of faux greenery, whimsical spring bunnies, and a colorful teapot.
- Frame botanical pages from a book to create an instant visual garden gallery.
- Frame a charming tea towel for budget-friendly character in a room.
