Simple Fall Decorating Ideas

I love how a few simple touches can transform my home into a cozy retreat.

Charming pumpkins…

Warm colors…

The beauty of autumn makes this time of year perfect for seasonal decorating.

I’ve gathered some of my favorite simple fall decor ideas that work throughout living spaces, on small porches, and even in corners that often get overlooked.

Most of these projects are easy to do, don’t take a lot of money, and can be enjoyed all season long!

Pumpkin Teacup Project

One of my favorite simple fall decor ideas is the teacup pumpkin. It’s a small-scale DIY that adds charm to any space.

You just need a few supplies. A small pumpkin, a teacup, some moss, and some ribbon.

That’s it!

Simply place a small pumpkin in a teacup, tuck in a bit of moss, and tie a bow around it.

These little creations are perfect for coffee tables, end tables, or as a thoughtful gift.

It’s amazing how a small project like this can become a focal point in a room!

Decorate with Pumpkins

Using pumpkins in different colors and sizes throughout the home is one of my favorite fall touches. Real pumpkins look amazing, but mixing in faux pumpkins helps them last the entire season.

Consider placing clusters on end tables, a dining table, or even small spaces like a window seat.

A front porch is ideal for scattering pumpkins. I like using white pumpkins among the orange ones—they add a more realistic look and balance the warm colors.

Tip: Arrange pumpkins in multiples for dramatic impact!

Play with Color Palettes

One of my favorite ways to start fall decorating is by thinking about color.

Choosing a cohesive color scheme sets the tone for the entire season.

Go traditional by mixing warm colors like burnt orange, deep reds, golden yellows, and muted greens.

Or shake things up by adding sky blue or royal purple.

A well-chosen color palette makes all the simple things feel intentional and beautiful!

Swap Pillow Covers & Add a Cozy Throw Blanket

Oh, how I love pillow covers!

One might say I have too many.

But pillow covers are one of the easiest ways to give your living room a fall refresh.

Switch out your pillow covers and you have an instant seasonal makeover!

I love adding throw pillows in warm colors or patterns that match the season.

Pair them with a cozy throw blanket draped over a sofa or family room chair.

These small changes instantly create a cozy fall vibe.

I like using pillows in different textures—linen, velvet, or knit—because layering textures is a great way to add depth without a lot of effort!

Style the Coffee Table

I spend a lot of time in my living room, so styling the coffee table is a must for fall decorating.

I like to gather a few simple things, like a small stack of books, a beeswax candle, faux pumpkins in various sizes, and some fall leaves or pine cones.

Grouping items in odd numbers usually makes the display feel natural and relaxed.

Even little touches, like a small vase with fall flowers from my own yard, add seasonal charm without much time or effort.

Or add home decor in warm wood tones and throw in a little animal print!

Style a Dough Bowl

Dough bowls are one of the easiest ways to add seasonal centerpieces to your home.

I like filling mine with natural elements, such as pine cones, faux pumpkins, and fall leaves.

Mixing textures and colors creates interest without needing a lot of money.

A dough bowl works well on a coffee table, a dining room table, or even a console in a hallway.

Such a simple idea that adds a lot of cozy fall charm!

Dining Table Centerpiece

When I set up my dining table for fall, I love creating seasonal centerpieces that feel layered but not complicated.

I combined a mini pumpkin with a small grapevine wreath and moss for a super simple centerpiece for a small dining table.

Touches like this make the table feel ready for family dinners or entertaining friends.

You can try this on a large scale as well. I found this enormous basket at a garage sale for only $12. It took me 5 minutes to layer fall florals on the bottom and place some faux pumpkins on top.

It was a great opportunity to use items I already had from last year and give them a grand look for fall.

Tip: If you have a large basket to fill, stuff the bottom with crumpled paper sacks or a blanket. You won’t need as many florals, and your basket won’t get heavy.

Hang a Fall Wreath

Fall wreaths are one of the easiest ways to welcome the season.

Hanging one on the front door immediately sets a cozy tone for guests.

I also sometimes hang smaller wreaths above a mantel or on interior doors.

Incorporate Natural Elements

Bringing natural elements indoors is one of my favorite ways to decorate for fall.

Gather branches and colorful fall foliage from your own yard and scatter them around the home.

Toss some pine cones in a bowl…how easy is that?

Pumpkin Floral Arrangement

Combining pumpkins with fall flowers is a fun idea that adds color and life to small spaces.

I like using real flowers when possible, but faux flowers are a great alternative for a longer-lasting arrangement.

I place these on end tables, the coffee table, or even a small corner of the dining room table. The mixture of natural materials and seasonal elements makes it feel thoughtful without taking a long time to prepare.

Use a Minimalist Approach

Sometimes less is more, and I love using a minimalist approach for fall decorating.

Choosing one or two simple items can be quite dramatic when displayed in multiples.

This is one of the best ways to decorate if you have a small space, prefer a clean look, or just want to add fall touches without clutter.

Keep It Simple

Fall decorating doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive.

Using simple ideas like swapping pillow covers, adding cozy throw blankets, grouping pumpkins, or bringing in natural elements can completely transform your living spaces.

These simple fall decor ideas allow me to enjoy my favorite season, the beauty of autumn, and cozy fall evenings without a lot of stress. The best part is that there are plenty of ways to make each space feel personal and inviting.

And remind us why fall is one of our favorite seasons!

Cheers!
