Taming Eyewear Chaos

I’ll admit it—I have a lot of eyewear.

Reading glasses, sunglasses, sunnies for sunny days, even a few quirky pairs I bought on vacation and never wore again (but can’t seem to part with).

I have pairs of reading glasses tucked in bags, a favorite pair of sunglasses on the kitchen counter, and more frames than I can count in my dresser drawer.

And yes, I lose them.

Constantly.

It’s the worst when I misplace the very specific reading glasses I really love—like the salmon pink frames that go with that outfit I wore at that birthday party last year…

Or those round wire-framed sunglasses with the mirrored lenses…

Out of necessity (and a touch of desperation), I knew I needed a stylish way to organize my reading glasses and sunglass collection.

The Handcrafted Society Challenge

It’s time for The Handcrafted Society!

Designed by our host Wendy at WM Design House, this is a group of creatives who take on a monthly project challenge with a specific medium or theme in mind. This month, the challenge material is…frames!

My mind instantly went to some of my thrifted frames. But as I searched for my reading glasses (for the hundredth time that day), I thought…Why not frame my frames?

A project is born!

Be sure to read to the bottom of the post to see all of the amazing frame projects by my fellow Handcrafted Society friends!

Why Eyewear Storage Matters

Whether you have a smaller sunglasses collection or enough frames to open your own mini eyeglass store, proper storage is important.

Glasses can easily get scratched, bent, or warped—especially if they’re tossed into a dresser drawer or left near direct sunlight and high temperatures. Extreme heat can even damage certain frame materials and lenses.

Keeping your eyewear in a safe place is the best practice to make sure it stays in good condition.

Plus, when your glasses have an organized home, you’ll always know where to find them—no more rushing out the front door on a sunny day only to realize your sunglasses are nowhere to be found.

The Idea: A “Framed Frames” Wall

Since I get dressed in our walk-in closet every day, I decided to put my vertical space to good use. I have a partial wall that’s part of our closet shelf structure—just the right spot for a hanging organizer.

And what better way to display my frames than in an actual wood frame?

That was my lightbulb moment. The “icing on the cake” would be these amazing clear acrylic eyewear boxes I found. They have a hinge for easy access, so I can grab my sunnies or readers in seconds.

They even come with adhesive strips so you can attach them to almost any surface…including walls.

How to Organize Your Sunglasses and Eyewear

Just a few supplies are all you need to create this fun and functional wall art for all of your eyewear storage!

Supplies You’ll Need

Find Your Frame

I started with a thrifted art piece that had a simple natural wood frame.

The art itself? Let’s just say it wasn’t my style.

I removed the glass and backing, then gave the frame a quick coat of black spray paint to coordinate with my closet decor.

You can use any frame that fits the size of your sunglasses collection and the wall space you have.

Bigger frame? More boxes! Smaller frame? A curated selection of favorites!

Add Some Personality

You could leave the inside wall space plain, but I wanted to make it a little more interesting.

I found sheets of peel-and-stick wallpaper at the dollar store—perfect for adding a little visual interest without spending too much space in the budget. I applied it right to the wall area inside the empty frame.

You could also use wrapping paper, fabric, or just let your wall color shine through.

Install the Acrylic Boxes

These are the most amazing eyewear storage boxes and so easy to attach to the wall!

Using a level, I positioned the first box exactly where I wanted it. I peeled off the backing from the double-stick tape, pressed the box firmly to the wall, and repeated the process until the frame was filled.

What I Learned: I discovered that the included adhesive strip is REALLY strong. So if I ever want to reposition the storage boxes, it will probably take off the wallpaper (or paint if that is your background. Instead, I used reliable Command Strips will Velcro. They hold the case in place but are repositionable if I so choose!

The beauty of these clear boxes is that they use your vertical space efficiently, they don’t take up valuable storage space elsewhere, and they keep your eyewear free from dust.

Plus, you can actually see each pair—no more digging for your favorite pair buried under a pile.

Fill Your New Sunglass Organizers

Once the boxes were in place, I loaded them with my collection of sunglasses and pairs of reading glasses.

Some people have a smaller sunglasses collection that fits in one or two boxes. Others (like me) fill the whole frame. The great thing is, it works for any size of your sunglasses collection.

Now, my sunnies, readers, and even my quirky “statement” glasses are neatly displayed and protected. It’s a great way to turn something practical into something beautiful!

Why I Love This System

The best part? My eyewear is no longer lost in random places around the house. It’s organized, protected, and…it looks like a little boutique display in my closet!

I can see my entire collection at a glance, making it easy to pick the perfect pair for the day ahead. The clear boxes make finding a pair of sunglasses quick and simple, while keeping them in proper storage so they last longer.

And because they’re in a safe place away from direct sunlight, extreme heat, and accidental knocks, they’ll stay in good condition for years.

It turns out that the best way to store glasses is also one of the prettiest! My framed frames not only solve a frustrating problem, but they also add a little joy to my morning routine.

So if your eyewear frames are scattered around your home, taking up too much space in drawers, or simply in need of some love, this could be your new favorite storage hack!
